Forough Farrokhzad

Abstract

Persian poetry has, since ages, been a captive to a male voice.
Even a feminine discourse has been masked by the male accent till
there appears the poetry of Farogh Farrukhzad and for the very first
time, a woman gave vent to her feelings in a feminine voice. Farogh`s
poetry gave vociferous expression to the Iranian woman reacting
against her centuries old frustrationg silence, Farogh`s telent was well
appreciated. None else in the Persian literature could ever match her
bold expressions though her life spans over a period of not more than
33 years i.e. 1933-1966. In this article the glimpses of her poetic flair
and its appreciation are given.
