International political and social movements influenced almost every
walk of life. Literature in its themes and subjects reflects these
influences. Urdu poem also embraces their effects. Urdu poem while
adopting the form of free verse speaks for contemporary scenario. We
find the effect of International literary movements on Urdu free verse
right from the birth. During the last two decade of the twentieth
century and the beginning of the twenty first century the great World
Wars fought by the imperial powers in the name of peace, had
destroyed the world peace. In the ear of globalization these World
Wars destroyed the peace at national level, too. The repercussions of
civil war and terrorism kept showing up for a long time. A new
outlook was adopted to look at the relation with other nations at
national and international level. Moreover, human relation at
individual level felt the effects. The contemporary poets of free verse
led the free verse to such an apex in terms of its theme and technique.
Naseer Ahmed Nasir, Ali Muhammad Farshi and Rawish Nadeem are
counted as the representative contemporary poets of Urdu free verse.
