Majeed Amjad is a seminal figure in Urdu poetry. There is no
denying the fact that the distinction of subjects and originality of
treatment, wedded with ingenuity of craft is central to Majeed Amjad.
He picks seemingly ordinary and every day subjects but through his
penetrating vision, blends them with the universal. In this article,
Majeed has used metaphor of death in the form of a mound of mud, a
common element found in almost every graveyard, everywhere. What
makes this dirt something unique and sublime is the treatment given
to it by the poet, the fresh perspective embedded in an everyday
occurrence. Mud and dirt moist with tears of human suffering,
but in a way the perennial and eternal time that tells the ultimate tale
of suffering and servitude that has been the wont of humanity for
eons.
