Abstract

Urdu Short Story possesses a very rich tradition of opulenece of subjects and types of characters. Demented and  manaiacal characters in Urdu short story have been crafted by a many Urdu short story writers such as Sadat Hassan Manto, Agha Ashraf and Mumtaz Mufti etc, which show the particular startum of society's collective consciousness. This artcile evaluates the monomaniac and frenzied aspects of these characters in Urdu short stories within the social and cognitive perspectives.
