Abstract

Being a very true yet painful depiction of human tragedy and turmoil
suffered by the society and families in general and the individuals,
especially Muzammil and Naseebia of Bihar, in particular, Altaf
Fatima’s novel “Chalta Musafir” deals with and revolves around the
same phenomenon that emerged following partition of the subcontinent and later in the wake of the separation of the East Pakistan,
now Bangladesh, from the West Pakistan. An attempt has been made
in this article to identify and analyse the salient features of the subject
novel, thus, corelating between the catastrophic consequences of
political decisions, religious divide and ethnic differences and the
resultant sufferings, agony and chaos as well as the cost paid by
innocent and helpless individuals for the sins committed by others.
