Abstract

This study offers a mythic and existential analysis of Anwar Sajjad’s short story Prometheus, situating it within the framework of existential philosophy and modern Urdu fiction. Drawing upon the ideas of Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus, the paper examines how the protagonist embodies the anguish of creative commitment and existential responsibility. The classical myth of Prometheus is reinterpreted to reflect the modern artist’s suffering within a repressive socio-political environment. Through close textual analysis, the study argues that the imagery of pain, fragmentation, and moral hesitation signifies both the internal disintegration of the artist and the ethical crisis of representation. The paper concludes that Sajjad’s protagonist emerges as a conflicted Prometheus, unable to sustain the burden of truth, thereby representing a broader existential crisis.
