Abstract

Poets use their poetry as a tool to give vent to their inner feelings and
highlight the socio economic turmoil of their era in the true sense.
They cannot remain oblivious to their surroundings. In Urdu, the
Natiya Poetry / Kalam has the tradition to include socio-political and
moral issues of the contemporary times. The genre of Ashob-e-Shahr
in Natiya Kalam highlights the anguish and distress of poets. The
poets make an appeal and request to the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) in
their Natiya Kalam. This article throws light on it in Hafeez Taib's
Naat and traces back the history of Natiya Kalam of poets who
depicted the woes and tumults of their times in their poetry. Taib's
Natiya poetic collections represent the sufferings, moral decay and
decline of values among the Muslims. He gives mirror image to those
happenings and appeals to the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) to have a look
of mercy upon His ummah.
