Abstract

Throughout history translation has played a vital role in inter-human
communication. It has given us access to religious and literary texts
written in different languages, cultures and periods. Translation
played a crucial role in development and evolution of Urdu language
and literature. Urdu literature borrowed new concepts, models and
literary forms from other languages especially from Arabic, Persian
and English. Due to this significance of translation in Urdu literature
it is required to have an in depth knowledge of translation studies
which has made tremendous progress during the last fifty years and
has (gained) emerged as a new discipline, known as translation
studies. This is an inter-disciplinary subject that has its own history,
theories, concepts, research models and teaching methods. This is
need of hour for the Urdu scholars and researchers to study and
understand various areas of this new emerging academic discipline,
so that they may be able to understand the translated text in a better
way and do quality research in this domain.
